Article Types

Pan-African Journal of Research and Innovation in Media and Communication Studies accepts scholarly manuscripts that make a clear, original and relevant contribution to its field. The journal's principal article categories include:

  • Original Research Articles: Empirical or theoretical studies that advance knowledge of media, communication, audiences, institutions or professional practice.
  • Review Articles: Critical syntheses of media and communication scholarship that identify patterns, debates and research gaps.
  • Media Analyses: Rigorous analyses of media texts, platforms, industries, representation, discourse or communication processes.
  • Communication Case Studies: Contextual studies of campaigns, organisations, technologies, audiences, crises or communication practices.
  • Professional and Policy Studies: Research examining media policy, journalism practice, regulation, strategic communication or institutional change.

General Expectations

Regardless of article type, submissions should have a clearly defined purpose, appropriate engagement with relevant scholarship, a transparent method or analytical framework, coherent presentation and conclusions that follow from the evidence or argument.

Authors should select the article type that best reflects the nature of their manuscript. The editorial team may recommend reclassification where another category better represents the submitted work.

Language and Presentation

Manuscripts should be written in clear academic English and prepared in accordance with the journal's author guidelines. Tables, figures, data, quotations and supplementary materials should be relevant, accurately presented and properly acknowledged.
